DIRECT TO VIDEO SEQUEL TO "LAND OF THE DEAD"!!!!
Two days in a row of solid news. First a remake, that has already been shot and is scheduled (hoping for a release in Jan. 2006).
But even better news appears today from CHUD.com:

 We were all sad when George Romero’s Land of the Dead – a fierce and brilliantly good entry in his Dead series – didn’t do as well at the box office as the current crop of crappy horror films. I worried that this would be the end of the series – not because I wanted to see an endless rehash of the same stuff but precisely because Romero does the opposite, bringing new themes and ideas to each of his films.
The Dead films could be continuing, though, in a whole new way – as a series of direct to DVD releases.
Today I spoke with John Harrison, who has worked with George Romero throughout his career as assistant director, composer, and even as the Screwdriver Zombie in Dawn of the Dead. I was talking to John about the recent DVD release of the lost horror classic Effects (starring Tom Savini and Day of the Dead’s Joe Pilato – click here to buy the excellent new Effects DVD from CHUD!), and he mentioned that he had been working with Romero on some new projects.
“I can’t talk about them too much because they’re in the nascent stages,” he told me. “There are a couple of smaller projects, including one that could be really fun. I can’t talk too much about it, unfortunately, but what I can say is that it remains in the world he is known for and it would be a new DVD franchise.”
There’s more – including talk about Romero’s Dracula film, upcoming Clive Barker movies, and the possible future of the Dune franchise, as well as lots of great information about the lost classic Effects – in my full interview with Harrison, which should run in the next day or so!

Another NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Remake!!!!!!

After having a remake previously released back in 1989, it's an oddity in its own right to find another one already filmed and ready to be viewed starring HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES Sid Haig in a 3-D Modern updating on the film. And yes, you read that correctly the film has already been shot and is in 3-D!
The film itself is Directed and Produced By Jeff Broadstreet and Written By Robert Valding.
Where exactly this remake came from is beyond me? It's a left fielder and the team is in no way affilated with George A. Romero. From what I can tell from the trailer, it's truly a modern retelling of the original with true to Romero undead, unlike the successful Hollywood remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD. It even seems to hold true to the classic story, much like the previous remake.
No release date has been announced thus far, but I'll keep everyone updated as the news comes in!

LAND OF THE DEAD HITS THEATERS!
I've been away due to various reasons, that and there haven't been many updates. But I do have this to report LAND OF THE DEAD hits the theaters in America as of June 14 and as a bonus on information Romero is planning on doing another. So it looks like we will be looking forward to another story from the man himself.

 The first set pics from Land of the Dead have hit the net!
Bloody-disgusting.com has access to someone on set and here is his report along with a link to 6 or so pictures from the shoot.
I was on the set again last night. Didn't get there as early as I would've liked, but what I saw was them shooting a scene where they shot up a storefront. Normally it's an art gallery, but for the movie they changed it to a flower shop. I think the location in the movie is called Uniontown. About 4 times in a row they shot up the store window.
Later they set up for another shot with a large black zombie, standing in front of the storefront holding a severed head. From a distance it lookedkind of cheesy, but when I got closer it was really a work of art. Fully operational eyes, mouth and facial movements. The head looked at the zombie and did the usual zombie groan, the large zombie holding the head returned the glance. Looked up at a light then lowered the head.
I have no idea what that has to do with the movie but the girl I talked to said it's supposed to be a hotel. Dennis Hopper was supposed to have been on set tonight, I saw what looked like his stunt double riding one of the motorcycles last night.
Tonight is the last night of filming before they move the shoot to Scarborough. They're at the same location till around 5, and then they're moving. Going to see if I can find out where exactly.
No photos, they had a huge light set up over head and tons of crew spread around watching for cameras. Plus they wouldn't let you cross the street where the Dead Reckoning was parked. I heard that they had it rolling through town earlier around 5:00 and had it parked in front of the gas station from the other day.
The set was open for people to come and watch. You had to stay across thestreet from the camera. Keep quiet, but you could check out what was going on. During the day when they weren't shooting you could walk along the street and check out the sets (excluding the lot where DR is parked), the stores were all open. But after 5 the road was closed along with all the stores.
I asked about extras and how one might get in to be a zombie or a human extra. They said you need an agent and they wouldn't let any one just walk off the street be in the movie.

As production clips along, the info and pics just keep on coming. This time around there are some awesome pictures of the "Dead Reckoning" vehicle. Also some great set pics.
Filming is set to continue through the fall, wrapping up sometime in early December.
The folks over at moviesonline.ca scored the scoop this time around. In their article they also confirm that the phone numbers we gave to you last week are in fact legit. The writer states, "I located a phone number for extra's I called it up and sure enough it was legit, so I gave them my number for me and my kids should they need extra's. If we get the call I will have some awesome pics "

DAWN OF THE DEAD remake now on DVD in America. Right in time for Halloween.

CAST FOR "LAND OF THE DEAD" from JOBLO.COM

Simon Baker, Dennis Hopper, Asia Argento and John Leguizamo have all signed on to star in George Romero's return to the zombie's that made him a legend in LAND OF THE DEAD. The film, as you may have heard, follows the last surviving humans on Earth who have holed themselves up inside a protected, walled city. Baker, Argento and Leguizamo will all play a team of soldiers sent to do battle with the evolving zombie threat in a tank-like vehicle called the Dead Reckoning. As reported the other day, Universal has come aboard to back and distribute the film, making it their third zombie move this year (behind DAWN OF THE DEAD and SHAUN OF THE DEAD). The film is written and directed by Romero and will begin filming later next month in Toronto. No word yet on when Uni plans on releasing the film but next summer or Halloween would seem to make sense.

A Rotten Update: Anchor Bay's Mike Felsher dropped us a line regarding this pic...
"...there are pictures floating around out there of supposed Final Art for the DAWN ULTIMATE EDITION coming up this September. However, none of them are correct. We haven't finished our final art yet, and the images floating around out there in various forms do not reflect our final packaging. We'll hopefully have final art by the 4th of July."
Michael adds that an update has been made to the disc's official website with interview snippets featuring George Romero, Gaylen Ross, and Tom Savini. Check it out here!
Though I'm sure we'll update this story when Anchor Bay's Dawn of the Dead DVD site reveals it later this week, I thought you might dig a first look at the packaging for the forthcoming 4-disc set, the details of which we reported on here. Expect some better images of it really soon!

Anchor Bay knows what they have on their hands with the latest, four-disc release of Dawn of the Dead. To prove that, and for the first time ever if I recall correctly, they've created a brand-new website dedicated to just the disc and all the special stuff that'll be on it.
Not too much is up now, but Fango is reporting clips from the interviews with George Romero, Tom Savini, and Gaylen Ross will be up by the end of the week, with a look at the packaging appearing early next week.
Right now, however, you can check out the sections that are open which delve into the details of the three different versions of the film that will be included, as well as the features that will appear on their relative disc. Check out the site right here!
Dawn of the Dead is due out on September 7th and is only gonna set you back a paltry . |

More and more stuff is coming out surrounding Taurus Entertainment's "sequel" to George Romero's Day of the Dead. Even though the plot doesn't seem to follow much of anything in the Romero universe, Day of the Dead: Contagium is utilizing their rights to the title anyway.
Over on the official site for the film, there's now a new behind-the-scenes section up. The main slice of this is a video that is essentially a look at what went on on the other side of the camera, and some zombie action. There's also section in which Greg McDougalls (formerly a student of Tom Savini's Makeup School) explains all the work that went into creating the living dead. Good stuff!
Just click here to be magically transported to the official DotD: Contagium site, and when you get there just click the "Behind The Scenes" link under the title. Dig it!

Some dreams can come true. Following the last few years' dry spell for horror master George Romero, the last thing I expected was for him to have to be choosing which of his new films should start first, but that's exactly what's going on according to the official site for Diamond Dead.
They say the financing has come together for pretty much both of Romero's new films, Dead Reckoning and Diamond Dead; one is going to start in October, the other next Spring. What George has to decide is which to do first, since it has a bearing on when the financing will come through, but they hope to have it sorted out this week.
As always, there is more information over on the official site for Diamond Dead, located here, but unfortunately nothing in terms of an update on George's official site. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

New Line must have been unimpressed by the reaction Robert Harmon's Highwaymen attracted in its very-limited February release, because rather than move up to a wide bow the hi-octane thriller is instead zipping right on over to the DVD format August 24th. Expect all the usual technical fixin's: a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, 5.1 sound. No word on Extras as of right now. Price tag on this one is .97.
And after a little speculation, Universal has finally locked down a release date for their Dawn of the Dead remake: October 5th. As previously mentioned, Uni's unveiling two versions, a rated and an unrated cut (featuring 9-minutes of new footage). Extras will include:
- An audio commentary with Zach Snyder and Eric Newman
- The Lost Tape: Andy's Terrifying Last Days Revealed featurette
- A Special Bulletin: We Interrupt This Program featurette
- A Surviving Dawn of the Dead featurette
- "Undead scenes" with commentary by Snyder
The unrated version will contain all of the above and...
- Attack of the Living Dead featurette
- Splitting Headaches: Anatomy of Exploding Heads featurette
